In Japan instant food is a food culture of its own because of the variety that can be found.
The most obvious example is instant noodles which were invented in Japan. The noodles range from the standard and cheap served in a disposable cup to the more expensive type with an assortment of toppings and better quality noodles. |

The expensive type usually serves not just ramen, but udon, soba, yakisoba, or even pasta in a larger bowl. Instant noodle manufacturers are also known to work with famous noodle shops across Japan to recreate their flavor and sell limited edition instant noodles in convenience stores and grocery stores. ![]() Besides cup noodles Japan has its own range of instant soups and frozen foods such as egg and seaweed soup and frozen edamame. Also common is a unique type of instant food which is usually packed in a tightly enclosed pouch, serving rice, curry, soups, stews, and meat dishes. As with noodles, manufactures of these pouch-packed instant foods often produce limited edition products bringing variety to the grocery aisle. |
