Japanese style BBQ |

Food at Japanese barbeques is a bit different from what you may be familiar with. It is more of a grill than a barbeque since many of the ingredients are cut into small pieces to be grilled quickly on charcoal.
Yakiniku, Japanese-style Korean barbeque, is the most common main dish consisting of beef served with sliced vegetables or vegetable skewers on the side. The ingredients are dipped into soy based tare (sauces). |

Another dish enjoyed on the grill is foil yaki where meats, fish, vegetables, and mushrooms are wrapped in aluminum foil to be baked with flavoring such as lemon, sake, soy sauce, or butter. Towards the end of the BBQ, a hot plate might be placed on the grill to make yakisoba (fried noodles) or yaki onigiri (grilled rice balls). ![]() Everyone coming to the BBQ is there for the great weather and socialization. Instead of just one person at the grill, at a Japanese BBQ everyone helps out with the preparation and the food is eaten while more is being cooked. |
